1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. • I have tried to design my magazine so that it looks professional and
has the same form as other music magazines. I have done this by
having including a main image on my front cover that is a mid-shot
of the subject, this is so the front cover is covered by two thirds of
the main person that the magazine is about, and they instantly
know what is featured in this magazine without having to read
anything. I have also ensured that their eyes are looking forward so
that the audience gets engaged by the subject and therefore they
are drawn in. The background of the picture is white and I tried to
make it plane but not boring so I have used a white, netted canopy
to create that light background so that the subject will stand out
and the cover lines and masthead will be seen easily. By using a
canopy is creates a tent like look and feel. I have also positioned my
model with a guitar in her hands that will promote the acoustic
genre of the magazine and also shows that it is a music magazine
and not just any magazine.
3. • At the top of the page of my magazine I have put
a mast head that goes from left to right in a font
that is quite bold but has a slight curliness to it
and made it a colour that stands out from the
white background so it will be noticeable in a
magazine rack. I have insured that the colour of
the mast head stays in my colour scheme of
purple, pink and white (with some black text). I
decided to make it pink as the flowers in her hair
are pink, and it fits in with being quite a soft girly
colour.
4. • I have placed cover lines on either side of my
magazine with the stories that contain big names like
‘Nina Nesbit’ and ‘Foxes’, who are well established
artists in the music industry and that will interest my
audience on the left, where the audience will look first
and the side that will be most likely to be seen when
standing in a magazine stand in a shop. For the names I
have used the blue colour from my main images eyes
as it brings out the colour and enhances the colour and
draws your focus to her lovely eyes and then to the
names. I have also used the font Monotype Corsiva and
a large font to make the cover lines easy to read and so
they can be seen from a slight distance.
5. • On the right hand side of my magazine I have placed a puff with the
buzz word “WIN” advertising a prize that you can win inside the
magazine have put in on to a squared background which appears on
the other pages to create a house style and it grabs the attention of
the reader as it stands out against the background and will make
them buy the magazine so that they can win the prize that they
desire inside. As well as the word ‘WIN’ I have also used a buzz
word ‘EXCLUSIVE’ on my cover line promoting ‘Ella Bella’s interview
which tells the audience that this star could be difficult to get hold
of by interviewers and makes the reader feel like they are delving in
to the life of an artist and finding things out about her that not
many people know, getting to know what the artist has to say and
then the audience feels like they have a personal connection with
the featured artist. Buzz words catch the eye of the audience and
gets them to read more!
6. • In the right hand corner of my front cover I
have put a smaller picture with an anchor
attached to it that gives a bit of a hint as to
what else is revealed in the magazine and by
saying that the answer to what they are
wondering is inside people will buy the
magazine to find out the answers and tell
other people what secret information they
know about their favourite artists. It creates
and element of surprise for the reader.
7. • Above the picture I have included a signpost that
looks like something you would find at a festival
with directions to attractions that may be at a
festival mixed with other small features that are
included in the magazine, like tour dates for
bands and tips for make-up. This is just to make it
look a bit more appealing to the audience and
different from any other magazine weather it’s a
music magazine or not, and more creative and
unique from magazines that may be from the
same genre.
8. • I noticed in a lot of other magazines that they
tend to have numbers on the front that were
included in the cover lines that were in a large
font for example saying , 100 facts you didn’t
know about the beach. This is another way
that the audience may be intrigued as
numbers are eye catching and can be of an
interest to some people.
9. • Also when setting the scene for my mise en scene in my main ima
I had to think about the lighting making sure that it was light
enough to give the feeling of a tent outside, I asked my model to
look really happy, so it looked like she could be performing to her
audience. In the main image on my contents I went to a festival to
get the tents in the background and made sure I took the picture
when it was sunny, I got some people to walk past to look like the
were on their way to set up their tents. I gave her the drum as a
surprise so that I could get her genuine reaction to getting a little
present that she wanted. Her hair is a bit of a mess and she doesn
have perfect make up I did this so it looked like she had been at a
festival for a couple of days. In the images of the three girls sitting
outside, I wanted there to be the feeling of being natural, in touch
with nature as acoustic is a very natural raw style of music.
10. • To make my magazine look professional I have
created my own barcode with the price date
and issue number, with the website below it
as well at the bottom left of the magazine
which is not where the audience are going to
look instantly.
11. • At the top of my magazine I have a strip that
show that it is the first edition and a festival
themed magazine. The type of people who I
am aiming my magazine at will be attracted by
the fact it says festival edition.
