  1. 1. It is free, simple, and can be done at home!
  2. 2. <ul><ul><li>They are FREE! </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Current Fiction, non-fiction, children’s, and teen ebooks are available. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>No FINES! eBooks expire on the date they are due and turn themselves in. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Place holds on titles that are checked out and get an email alert when they are ready for you to check them out. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Borrow up to 5 titles at one time. </li></ul></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><ul><li>Overdrive has both EPUB and PDF formats available. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>These download into most computers, laptops, and netbooks. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>for Windows (XP and later) or </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Mac systems (OS 10.4 and later) </li></ul></ul>

  6. 6. <ul><ul><li>What you need before downloading from the library: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Your compatible reader device </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Charged battery – Please make sure the battery is charged. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Valid library card number that is in good standing </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Adobe Reader software (Digital Editions) on device and computer – can get this free </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Internet access </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Plug in the device to the computer and make sure that both of them are turned on! </li></ul></ul></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><ul><li>Use an USB cord to connect your device to your computer. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Make sure you have Internet access </li></ul></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><ul><li>You can search for titles in the library’s catalog </li></ul></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>You will look for the eBook icon </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>When you see a title you want, you can click on the link to take you to the Overdrive page </li></ul></ul></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><ul><li>When you find the eBook you are looking for, look to see if the title is available </li></ul></ul>Notice that this ebook is checked out and has to be put on hold.
  10. 10. <ul><ul><li>To put the item on hold, click the link and get added to the list </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Enter your valid email address </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Once the eBook is available for you to check out you will be notified by email </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>After that you will have 2 days to “check out” or lose the item </li></ul></ul>
  11. 11. <ul><ul><li>Available title will have an “Add to Cart” link </li></ul></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><ul><li>Once it is added to your cart, you can either proceed to check out or continue browsing for books </li></ul></ul>
  13. 14. Click this link to begin downloading Click this link to begin downloading the Adobe Digital Editions if you have not already done so.

  15. 16. <ul><ul><li>Click on the Library icon (where the red arrow is pointing in the screengrab above) to return to the library view. This is where you’ll transfer the book to your nook. </li></ul></ul>
  16. 17. <ul><ul><li>If your Nook isn’t yet connected to your computer, use the USB cable to connect it and turn it on. It should appear in your Adobe Digital Editions library page as shown below: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>If you plug in and turn on your Nook and it doesn’t show up in ADE, simply exit and reopen ADE. Before reopening ADE, double check that your Nook is on and is displaying the USB connection screen. If you’re not seeing it and see regular Nook screens instead, you’ve ejected your Nook and you’ll need to unplug and replug it in. Sometimes the Nook Color may show up as “Media” rather than as “Nook” in ADE. </li></ul></ul>
  17. 18. <ul><ul><li>Now, click on the book you want to transfer to your Nook and drag it to your Nook icon as shown below: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>If you click on the Nook icon, it should show up as being in your Nook’s library as well. Once you get the hang of it it’s quite straightforward. Check out, download, drag and drop, and voila you’re reading your library book on your Nook! </li></ul></ul>
  18. 19. <ul><ul><li>While you are still here, let us check your card to make sure you are in good standing (up to date and no fines) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>When you get home, get on the website and look to see if what ebooks we have out there for you to read. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Try downloading them. </li></ul></ul>
  19. 20. <ul><ul><li>Remember these eBooks are FREE to borrow </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Why not try a new author? </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Read a genre you would not normally read. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Check out that eBook to read for the book club and actually read it. </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Try one of the teen books that all of your adult friends are raving about. </li></ul></ul></ul>
