  4. 4.  5 S is the name of organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words seiri,seiton,seiso,seiketsu,shitsuke  It is a structural program to systematically achieve total organization ,cleanliness , and standardization in the work place
  5. 5.  Over Production  Disordered Environment  Waiting for materials, machines and instructions  Excessive Inventory  Inefficient machine processing  Producing Defects  Miscommunication
  6. 6.  5s was developed in JAPAN  Japanese companies were getting more success using 5 s concept  Thirty years ago researchers started studying the secret of successes of Japanese manufacturing companies  5s turned out to be the most impressive secrete  The factories were so well organized that abnormal situations were readily apparent
  7. 7. I. SEIRI - Organization / Sort out II. SEITON- Setting in Order/ Systemize III. SEISO - The Cleaning / Shining IV. SEIKETSU – Standardize V. SHITSUKE - Sustain / Discipline
  8. 8.  Eliminates all unnecessary tools and parts  Keep only essential items  Ensure that everything in workplace is related to work  Keeping necessary things in easily and accessible places

  10. 10.  Seiton or orderliness is all about efficiency  This step consists of putting everything in a assign place so that it can be accessed quickly  Arrange material and equipment so that they are easy to find and use  The correct place for every tool , item ,and material chosen carefully in relation to work

  12. 12.  This step says that everyone is janitor (cleaner).  Repair , Clean and Shine Work area  Cleaning must be done by everyone in the organization from operators to managers  Assign every person or group of person for cleaning  Schedule for cleaning and sweeping
  13. 13. Seiso or shining example
  14. 14.  Generate a maintenance system for above phases  Define the standards by which person must measure and maintain cleanliness  Develop procedures , schedules , practices  Personnel are trained to detect abnormalities and to correct them immediately
  15. 15.  The last step of 5s shitsuke means Discipline  Maintain and Practices the first 4 s seiri ,seiton,sieso,and seiketsu  Make it a way of life  The purpose of shisuke is elimination of bad habits and constant practice of good once
  16. 16.  Heath and safety is ensured  Maintenance of machine is done regularly  Quality and Productivity are increased  Workplace is result in a place which is become easier to manage  Smooth Working  Time Saving  Accidents and Mistakes are minimized
