  • mofoghlu Mícheál Ó Foghlú, CTO at FeedHenry That's very useful feedback, I'll certainly cover these issues orally in the presentation, and update the slide-set for future events of this nature.

The answer, in this context of interaction with industry, is that we can use Enterprise Ireland funding to enable interactions with Irish owned companies who can outsource R&D to us, where it is mutually interesting to do so. So typically that starts with scoping discussions, and informing them of the opportunities, and can lead to a proposal being submitted to Enterprise Ireland. More recently the initial conversation can be seeded by the new EI Innovation Voucher scheme, small scale funding that usually produces a short scoping report.

Of course, if companies are prepared to pay directly for our services, response times can be faster, and we can negotiate consultancy agreements as with any consulting agency, with deliverables to the customer's satisfaction. In our experience Irish SMEs are not usually prepared to do this. We have been able to do this with a very select few SMEs, and with some larger multi-nationals, but overall this only represents around 1% of our total income (i.e. of €60 Million).
