  • About the City
Crystal, Minnesota is located mere minutes away from Minneapolis, yet this beautiful suburb has a much different feel than its urban neighbor. With only 23,000 residents, Crystal manages to retain a more laid-back pace of life and a family-friendly environment, which appeals to many who are looking to relocate to the suburbs.
  • History
The first settler of Crystal Lake Township was John Ware Dow, who arrived on March 26, 1852, followed the next day on March 27th by John C. Bohanon.  A caucus, for the nomination of officers for this new town was held at the house of J.D. Malbon on March 24, 1860.  The first election was held at the same place on April 3rd.  The total number of votes cast was fifty-five.
The year following the organization of the town, saw the commencement of the Civil War.  The town paid no bounties, but furnished its quota of men, all volunteers, except one.
On the west side of Crystal and Twin Lake was the Crystal Prairie, a strip about four miles long and one mile wide, of rich soil.  East of the lake to the Mississippi river was wooded area.  In 1852, a shingle mill was built at the mouth of Shingle Creek, from which it received it's name. Crystal Village was incorporated January 11, 1887, consisting of about 18 sections of land.
  • Economy
While Crystal offers a number of stellar neighborhoods, it is firmly committed to bringing others up to its high standard. Crystal’s Economic Development Authority has been busy in the last couple of years developing a program to improve neighborhood quality by buying older homes in poor quality for demolition, and subsequently selling the open lots to willing buyers.
Crystal has been awarded the "Minnesota Star City" designation for economic development.
  • Real Estate
Many lots are currently available at very affordable prices, and I would urge you to consider this option. There is nothing better than the luxury of customizing your own home. On the other hand, there are also a wealth of possibilities with the pre-existing real estate offerings. Many great single-family homes are currently available, so if you are looking for a nice starter home in a comfortable neighborhood, there is plenty to look at.
If you are looking for something a little larger, there are a number of multi-story homes available in excellent neighborhoods.
  • Education
Most students at Crystal study at the Robbinsdale School District, one of the most high standard school in Minnesota.
The Robbinsdale Area School District covers seven communities with a population of more than 100,000 residents and 47,000 households in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota, including all or parts of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, Plymouth and Robbinsdale.
  • Attractions
Crystal offers a variety of recreational areas that both individuals and families can enjoy. Those areas include parks with trails and sidwalks and an aquatic center.
The Crystal Cove Aquatic Center is a perfect place to soak up the fun for everyone. Among their facilities are the Zero Dept Pool, Splashdown, Jet Scream, Plunge, and the Lap Pool.
