    • Positively introduce underrepresented/underserved middle school students to applied learning and technical education in STEM fields.
    • Expose underrepresented/underserved middle school students to multiple technical career pathways and demonstrate the value of working in these technical fields.
  • 3.
    • Link foundational STEM theories and practices to hands on college-level activities and learning in order to increase perceived accessibility of technical career pathways.
    • Provide leadership opportunities to past Camp BMF participants by inviting participation in this year’s camp as volunteer junior staff.

    • First generation college students
    • 7 th and 8 th grade students – Jackson Middle School and Coon Rapids Middle School
    • Students with a 2.0 – 3.0 GPA
  • 5.
    • FREE
    • Classes were held at Anoka Technical College
    • Transportation to and from ATC was provided
    • Curriculum designed by and taught by higher education instructors and K-8 school teachers
    • Materials and supplies were included
  • 6.
    • Light breakfast and lunch were provided
    • Instructional learning and social fun
    • Day trips and end of camp field trip
    • Project presentation
    • Completion graduation ceremony, certificate and video.

    • Surveys, interviews and constant dialogue with all participants
    • Post camp interviews
    • Continuous contact with school and families throughout the following school year
