    • BARBITURATES!!!(= By: Leandraa Walters and Kaylaa Town First period Woo!
      • ☺ Barbiturates and minor tranquilizers are useful drugs in the practice of medicine, but are often abused when given as a prescription.
      • Approximately 2% of the U.S. population over the age of 12 use prescription drugs non-medically.
      • Approximately 9% of high school students surveyed have taken barbiturates non-medically at least once in their lives.
      • Barbiturates caused 396 deaths last year, some due to the drug alone, and some in connection with other drugs, suicide, accidents, or mental illness.
    • Generic Name Street Name Amobarbital Downers, blue heavens, blue velvet, blue devils Pentobarbital Nembies, yellow jackets, abbots, Mexican yellows Phenobarbital Purple hearts, goof balls Secobarbital Reds, red birds, red devils, lilly, F-40s, pinks, pink ladies, seggy Tuinal Rainbows, reds and blues, tooies, double trouble, gorilla pills, F-66s
      • Barbiturates are the third most powerful drug.
      • Street use also led to many deaths and problems, especially where barbiturates were injected.

      • insomnia
      • nausea, stomach problems
      • hallucinations
    • Short Term Effects Slurred speech, shallow breathing, sluggishness, fatigue, Disorientation , lack of coordination, dilated pupils, relief of anxiety and sleepiness. Higher doses cause impairment of memory, irritability paranoid, and suicidal ideation.
    • Long Term Effects chronic tiredness, general uncoordination, vision problems, dizziness, slowed reflexes and response, sexual dysfunction, menstrual irregularities, and breathing disorders.
    • "This friend of mine was always taking barbs. He also drank whisky a lot. Anyway one night he'd had a skinful of both. He was out in the back garden and his flatmate had started a fire to burn a load of garden rubbish. He collapsed and fell into the fire. He just lay there for ages. We found him and his leg was like a burnt piece of lamb. I've played around with all sorts of drugs but barbs no way".  STORY!
