  • mmilan Matthew Milan , Partner at Normative Thanks for the comments Jorge, I will definitely check out your writing on the subject. I agree that the inputs are not new; there’s a rich history of this kind of thinking. 2 years ago Reply

  • jorgebarba Jorge Barba , Strategy Consultant at Stratige Matthew I'm glad to see other people thinking along the same lines. What you propose isn't new, there's just this belief that strategy is a detailed action plan and because most people are programmed to think in terms of steps (mechanical) as opposed to being dynamic (fluid) they follow the rule book.

This is really just a human flaw and as you point out, the differences are enormous.

The truth is the best companies shape strategy moment by moment, day by day, as they learn from their customers and their competitive environment.

To me strategy is not pursuing a detailed plan step by step, it is finding or creating options that give me an advantage at any moment.

I'm interested in reading any other content you have on this topic.

Here are few things I've written about the topic myself and would love to hear your thoughts:

    Thanks!

  • mmilan Matthew Milan , Partner at Normative Thanks Shem, Apologies for the cursing; it was a conscious choice. I you like the ideas but want something more developed, If would suggest checking out some of my other presentations that explore these ideas, specifically 'The Information Architect and the Fighter Pilot' and 'Architecting Value'. 2 years ago Reply

  • shemisaac Shem Isaac Matthew,
Thanks for the presentation. I enjoyed it and feel it's thought provoking. I was actually making a list in my mind of people I would like to show this to. The only suggestion I would like to make is that it's not necessary to curse. I'd like to see a more expansive version without the f-bomb so I can show this to some people I respect. Thanks a lot for sharing.

  • mmilan Matthew Milan , Partner at Normative If you liked this presentation, you should really check out the video of the talk. http://bit.ly/8O7Bj3 It's a bit messy and a few points are rushed (my first time doing it) but the audio's decent. Take a look and let me know what you think! 2 years ago Reply
