First Grade Curriculum Reading <ul><li>Houghton Mifflin Reading Series: Incorporates phonics and reading strategies (listen to story on wikispace ) </li></ul><ul><li>Centers: Participate in independent learning activities that reinforce skills across the curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>Guided Reading: Small groups based on similar strengths/needs. Flexible as skills develop </li></ul>

General Information Reading Envelope <ul><li>Some students will bring home a white envelope containing a book </li></ul><ul><li>Ask your child to read the book to you </li></ul><ul><li>Repeated readings boost your child’s self-confidence as well as improve sight word vocab, fluency, and comprehension. </li></ul><ul><li>Sign enclosed sheet and return next day </li></ul>
  • 17. General Information Enrichment/Extra Support Assignments <ul><li>When appropriate, I will send home either an optional enrichment activity or practice assignments </li></ul>

General Information Important Reminders <ul><li>Students must have a note stating any transportation changes </li></ul><ul><li>Please send in an excuse note w/your child after an absence </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Vacation 2 times/year, no more than 5 days total </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Please remember to give your child a snack each day (lunchtime is 12:40) </li></ul><ul><li>Feel free to send a b.day treat (22 kids) </li></ul>

Classroom Discipline Policy Individual Behavior Plan <ul><li>1 st warning = name on board w/a check </li></ul><ul><li>2 nd warning = 2 nd check next to name </li></ul><ul><li>3 rd warning = fish out of the bowl and red note home to be signed and returned the following school day </li></ul><ul><li>Improvement = fish back in the bowl </li></ul><ul><li>Fish in bowl at end of day = star on incentive chart in blue homework folder </li></ul><ul><li>See examples! </li></ul>

Classroom Discipline Policy Rewards and Behavior Incentives <ul><li>Once incentive chart in blue folder is complete, students choose prize </li></ul><ul><li>Table groups earn stars for lunch w/teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Kutz Kudo drawing in office each Friday </li></ul><ul><li>Weekly goal met to earn free time Friday </li></ul>
