Work of Tom Sawyer Work of Tom Sawyer Presentation Transcript

  • TOM SAWYER By: Adrián G.C.
  • The book that I had read is Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain.
    • Mark Twain is the nick name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Florida (USA), 1835 – Connecticut (USA), 1910), that was a popular American writer. His father died when he was 12 years old, so he starts to work: he was typographer, soldier in the American Civic War, miner and journalist before becoming a writer. Other of his famous books are:
    • -The Innocents Abroad. (1869)
    • -Roughing It. (1872)
    • -A Murder, a Mystery and a Marriage. (1876)
    • -A Tramp Abroad. (1880)
    • -A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. (1889)
    • -A Dog’s Tale. (1904)
    • -Eve’s Diary. (1906)
    • -Letters from the Earth. (1909)
    • And many more!
    • I think that this book is a mixture of crime, funny, ironic and realist.
    GENRE OF THE BOOK
    • The story takes place in a village called St. Petersburg, near to the Mississippi River, in the south-east of the USA; and the story is told in the years of the great migration of population southwards and westwards across North America (between 1840 and 1860).
    SETTING
  • The main characters of the story are: Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. The secondary characters are: Aunt Polly, Becky Tatcher, Injun Joe, Muff Potter, Sid, Joe Harper, Dr. Robinson, Judge Tatcher… THE CHARACTERS
    • Tom Sawyer: He’s poor, and almost always is dressed in simples rags; he’s rebel and he’s in love with Becky Tatcher, a girl of the village; he live with his aunt, Polly.
    • Huckleberry Finn: He’s still poorer than Tom, and more rebellious than Tom too!; the people hates him, but really they love him, and if Huck leaves, they miss him too much; it’s my favourite character because his rebellion and because he’s very faithful with his friends.
    MAIN CHARACTERS DESCRIPTION
    • The story is about a boy called Thomas Sawyer, that is tired of stand his aunt Polly, and one night he went with his friend, Huckleberry Finn, to the cementery for to do a ritual for to cure the warts that they had, but they were witness of the murder of the Dr. Robinson, commited by Injun Joe, but he blamed to Muff Potter, who had present, but he didn’t remember nothing. Then, Tom and Huck testified againist Injun Joe in a judgement, but he escaped and then tried to kill Tom & Huck, but finally Injun Joe died in a cave in which Tom and Becky Tatcher had losed. While all of this happens, the book tells the love story between Becky Tatcher, a beatiful girl of the village, and Tom Sawyer.
    THE PLOT
    • I can describe the book with the words: funny, worth reading and exciting.
    • The author make I feel that the characters are belivable, because in the years in which the story takes place, I think that are many boys as the boys of the story: poor, “bad”, who didn’t follow the “rules”…
    • Yes, I enjoyed the book, because it’s so funny and exciting at the same time! The book “hooks” you as you begin to read it; you can’t stop, because you want to know what going to happen next!
    MY VEREDICT

K-WORDS AND WORDS THAT I HAVE LEARNED
