  • 2. Wu-wei...at the heart of Taoism is the concept of wu-wei, or non-action-a manner of living which, like nature itself, isnonassertive and spontaneous. Lao-tzu pointed out that innature all things work silently and simply; they fulfill theirfunction and, after they reach their bloom, they return totheir origins. Unlike Confucius’ ideal gentleman, who isconstantly involved in society in order to better it, Lao-tzu’ssage is a private person, an egocentric individualist.
