IKEA Gate Leg Table Good (great) Design Anyone who has ever lived in a studio or less-than-spacious 1 bedroom apartment knows that great furniture is designed to be space-efficient, provide storage when possible and serve multiple purposes. The IKEA gate leg table is all of these and may be the best furniture investment I have ever made. Converting the table from one of its three configurations to another only takes a few seconds and does not require a lot of strength. The built-in drawers are incredibly useful when storage is at a premium, and they put the finishing touch on the design—”No space was wasted in the building of this table.” Emily Stone

Lodgepole Pine The pinecone is covered by a thick resin, which is only opened by extreme heat. The pinecones fall, but the seeds aren’t released until there’s a forest fire. So, as the forest is consumed by forest fire, the seeds are simultaneously being released to start regrowth. Genius! Julie Barnes

My classroom and overhead projector ( Bad Design)

Overhead Projector- Bad Design I chose just one aspect of the poor design of my classroom. The projector screen has been hung on the left side of the room, where it is nearly impossible to place the overhead because of the number of desks in the room. Because of this I place it in the middle, after having moved the two front desks aside so that I can push the overhead cart to the middle of the classroom. This, however, leaves some students with a blocked view. The absence of a screen means there’s a glare on the board. Gretchen Gibbs

When Wi-Fi is not available (Bad Design) Function and necessity win over design when you absolutely positively have to have the students on the network and Wifi is not available. Land minds in the Vietnam jungles are almost easier to walk through. One wrong move by the teacher or student would result in taking an entire table down. The Fire Marshall would have a heart attack.
