GoalCreate dynamic events, activities and programs through a community based programthat effectively reaches families and educates parents about the importance ofsetting a positive healthy example for their kids.The Alarming StatisticsThe National Average for Overweight Children in America is 31%.Ohio’s Average for Obese Children is 34%Children who are 10 years old and are overweight have an80% risk of being obese as an adult.Obesity in children increases the risks of heart disease,Type 2 diabetes, stroke, breast cancer, bone and jointproblems, sleep apnea, mental disorders such as depressionand low self esteem. - 80% of type II diabetes related to obesity - 70% of cardiovascular disease related to obesity - 42% breast & colon cancer diagnosed in obese individuals - 26% of obese people having high blood pressureObesity Costs us $93 Billion a Year in Medical Bills plus … - $800.00 per year per employee with missed work - $275 million in extra jet fuel for the extra poundage - $1,000 per year per employee in medical costs
  3. 3. Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids was founded by Laura Miller a single mother who was born and raised inColumbus, Ohio. Laura had her son, Taylor, at 18 years old and has been determined to live against the stereotypeand be an excellent mother and parent. Through the years she has developed an extensive background in marketing,branding and events with the past five years focused on the parent market.Four years ago, Laura got really sick. The doctors told her that she had everything fromsevere hypoglycemia to possible lymphoma. She monitored her diet closely to try tomanage her symptoms with her son watching closely and concerned for her health.After three years the doctors finally determined that Laura had a severe gluten allergywhich was causing all of her health problems.A couple years ago, Laura was at the grocery store with her son Taylor. While shoppingshe noticed Taylor had picked up a drinkable yogurt smoothie and was reading thenutrition label. He then called down to her and said “Mom, this has 52 grams of sugar!This isn’t good for me!” and then put it back on the shelf and walked away. She thenrealized that everything that she had been going through and the example that sheset for Taylor in her diet and how it affected her body directly rubbed off on her sonand influenced him on the choices he made with his health, diet and activities.From there Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids was born and with strategicdynamic partnerships with active community leaders like COSI, Commit To Be Fit/10tv,The Ohio State University, Easton Town Center, Columbus Blue Jackets, ColumbusClippers, Columbus Crew and Nationwide Children’s Hospital we have started to makea strong headway has been made in the fight against childhood obesity in Central Ohio.“I am pleased to recommend Laura Miller and her work with Follow Me! FitClique StudioFitClique Studio Description (Year-round) The first foundation based studio in Columbus where the best of the best of fitness professionals will come together to instruct the public in one place. A portion of the proceeds will be donated back to Follow Me! Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids. FitClique Studio will also provide a home office and classroom space to Follow Me! for outreach & educational programs.
