Propaganda2

 1. 1. North Korean Propaganda

The methods of propaganda and how they compare to USSR propaganda.

The tools of propaganda and their effects

 2. 2. Cult of the leader Similarities between propaganda of the leaders. Examples will be posters of : -Kim Il Sung and Stalin -Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Leonid Brezhnev.
 3. 3. Joseph Stalin and Kim Il Sung

Posters of dictators often show them accompanied by army and civilians, with national flags. In Communist propaganda the background of posters is usually red. This pattern applies to posters of Stalin and Kim Il Sung, as shown on these pictures.

 4. 4. Leaders & Military insignia

The Communist leaders are often shown in uniforms with medals. This has to convince the people of the ''achievements'' of their dictator. Here we have Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Leonid Brezhniev.

 5. 5. Coats of Arms of USSR and North Korea: How they are similar

The first things we notice on these coats of arms are:

-The red star on the top

-Corn plants around the symbols

-A red banner with inscriptions, at the lowest part of each of the 2 coats of arms

 6. 6. The flags and their meaning

On the top we have one of the North Korean flags-a hammer, a sickle, & a paintbrush. Hammer symbolizes industrial workers(even though North Korea has almost no industry), sickle symbolizes agriculture(in North Korea it is more developed than industry) Paintbrush symbolizes art and skills of the people(of course everyone fears of the regime and censorship, so North Korean art limits to ancient architecture and propaganda books, posters and media.)

The Soviet flag fortunately does not mention art, although in USSR the censorship was lighter than in Korea. At least the USSR people weren't taught that their leader is worshipped even by birds or does miracles...

 7. 7. The Hate of North Koreans for the USA

North Korea's no.1 enemy is the USA. They express it through propaganda posters and other methods of brainwashing. Even students in schools are taught to hate Americans and capitalists. The North Koreans consider the U.S guilty of the Korean War and the division of Korea.American tourists find entering North Korea almost impossible and only on special, rarely organized trips.

On the posters we see:

A Korean soldier killing a soldier wrapped in American flag

A Korean soldier throwing missiles at the Capitol.

 8. 8. Quotes from Lenin and Kim Il Sung:Similarities

Quotes from Lenin:

''We want to achieve a new and better order of society: in this new and better society there must be neither rich nor poor; all will have to work. Not a handful of rich people, but all the working people must enjoy the fruits of their common labour. Machines and other improvements must serve to ease the work of all and not to enable a few to grow rich at the expense of millions and tens of millions of people. This new and better society is called socialist society. ''

Quotes from Kim Il Sung:

The Great Leader KIM IL SUNG said: 'We must give to all the workers a proper and enough education about the very long history and culture of our country, so they'll appreciate all the splendid traditions and heritage of our nation and all its beautiful moral and customs in the way that they'll carry them forward and develop them according to the new today's socialist life'

 9. 9. Quotes:Part II

Quotes from the official page of North Korea:

''In the defence area the Juche Idea means Self-Defence, it's a basic point to warrant the protection of the country using an invincible military power that will protect the motherland and revolutionary achievements from the aggressive Yankee imperialism and its servants.''

''The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a socialist independent state that represents all the interests of the Korean people. The exploiter capitalist class disappeared totally, and the different sectors of the traders, peasants and industrial workers that once worked based in the private property, today they became socialist workers.''

''The main tasks of the Government of the Republic are to achieve the total socialism in North Korea and get the peaceful unification with South Korea rejecting the external forces. This means to get the National Independence in all the Korean peninsula.''

 10. 10. Quotes :Part III

''The workers can participate widely in the state matters. The Government of the Republic follow the line of the 'Three revolutions: The ideological, the technical and the cultural one'' .

'The Juche Idea means, in few words, that the owner of the revolution and construction are the people's masses'

 11. 11. Propaganda is Everywhere

The propaganda surrounds North Koreans...even in the metro. Here are photos of propaganda murals on Pyongyang metro stations.

 12. 12. Propaganda is Everywhere:Part II
 13. 13. Propaganda is Everywhere: Part III
 14. 14. People in North Korea go to national celebrations...but they do not know what for.And why...
 15. 15. ¾ of North Korean news is about the achievments of the government...

...or a praise for communism and the military.

 16. 16. Summary

1. North Korean propaganda bases on Soviet methods, but applies ideas that can't be understood by unindoctrinated people.

2. koreans use to believe blindly in what is said to them-propaganda turns off their consciousness.

3.Cult of the leader exceeds even the one in USSR- Koreans believe in miracles done by leaders( myths about Kim Il Sung describe him almost like a god).

4. ''Propaganda of success'' is a load of rubbish- economy is just dead in DPR Korea.

5. The people are taught hate for other nations since childhood- propaganda permeates the society.

6.The ''socialist paradise'' shown to the outside world is in fact reign of terror.
