Presents From My Aunts In Pakistan - Presentation Transcript

    1. “I was aflame, I couldn’t rise up from its fire, half- English”She suffers from suffocation in a fire that she cannot get out of. In which she thinks she must burn to find her true identity. She envies the clothes struggling to rid of her English background as she is so connected to the both of them. Burning those clothes are the only ways to rid of her alienation from the rest of the world. But inside she really is more closer to her Pakistani culture than her English culture.
    2. “Apple green sari.” An apple relates to beauty of a sari and the taste of something beautiful. A luscious apple is common but unique. Saying that the sari is apple green suggests that a sari is irresistible to her which indicates that she would like to know more about her culture and her native food.
    3. “Was alien in the sitting room...”She feels that the dress is really different to her surroundings. She feels she is isolated from it as it comes from Pakistan but she is actually living in England where her tradition isn’t valued by other people. Her clothes don’t match with the surroundings she has been in for the past few years so when she sees it she feels deep discomfort and agony. In actual fact its her surrounding that don’t fit her.
    4. “ Marvel at the colours like stained glass. ” When you look through stained glass you find that you see different colours of the rainbow through it all going different directions. This relates to her and how she is split up between two cultures.
