Patient Protection and Affordable Act <ul><li>Insurance companies can not drop individuals for illnesses or refuse to take them because of pre existing conditions. </li></ul><ul><li>Young adults up to age 30 can stay on their parents insurance plans </li></ul><ul><li>New requirements that 85 cents of every premium dollar must go to health care (not just executive pay or perks for hospital management) </li></ul>

Patient Protection and Affordable Act <ul><li>Elimination of Co-Payments for certain “essential preventative health care services” </li></ul><ul><li>Allow insurers to sell policies in state exchanges across state lines to increase competition </li></ul><ul><li>Pays for plan by taxing “high cost” plans </li></ul><ul><li>Creates “wellness” incentives for those who quit smoking/exercise </li></ul>
  9. 9. Patient Protection and Affordable Act Challenges Republican governors across the country have filed legal challenges to legislation with focus on the individual mandate portion. US Supreme court will probably rule on the legal challenges in the coming year.

Passed originally during the Johnson administration it was renewed during the Bush administration and called No Child Left Behind in reference to requirements to improve benchmarks for all students. Currently being revised in Congress in 2012. </li></ul>
  22. 22. I.E.P. <ul><li>Federal legislation requires classified special education students each develop an Individual Education Plan(I.E.P.) with input from parents, regular and special education teachers and the student (when age appropriate) </li></ul>

  24. 24. Title I <ul><li>The U.S. Department of Education provides Title I funds to states to give to school districts based on the number of children from low-income families in each district. </li></ul>
  25. 25. Title 9 <ul><li>Law designed to provide equal funding in Athletics for both men and women. </li></ul>
