    Notes on slide 1

RSS as a key information mgmt tool -- reversing the direction of information flow from outgoing to incoming, without needing to plow through e-mail, etc.Setting up RSS feeds as soon as you know you have a research project allows the results to build automatically, and can bail out the procrastinator.

MJ-show students mechanics of proquest search and plugging a feed into their reader

Google News can generate RSS feeds from any search -- show students some of the features of GNews advanced search.

As we're going through the Anatomy of a Reader, have the students add some feedsStudents should add:1. A feed from ProQuest2. A feed of personal interest3. A feed for a standard Google News search

Google Books - most major works pre-1923 are contained in the FT in GB.1. When you need the full-text of a book you've lost, all the copies are checked out, etc.:The Adventures of Arabella, Charlotte Ramsay Lennox (1720-1804).  Also known as The Female Quixote2. Reference Book lookup:\"European Imperialism\" -- choose the Historical Dictionary of European Imperialism, then search for Bali (choose first hit).  Then click on \"FIND IN A LIBRARY\" linking out to WorldCat.
