  • What do you need to do? Used to get the chance to meet people and make a good first impression. Now your website is doing that for you. Your website should be as cool as you are. WRITE DOWN 1) Update your website weekly 2) Title NOT HOME: Make sure the title for your homepage is how you want your listing in Google to come up. (Location, too!) 3) Use a content system that is good for search engine optimization!

  • BLOGS ARE GOOD BECAUSE easy to post less formal, so you don’t have to post a masterpiece every week. play well with photos and videos…both of which are important for telling your story, and making your website more interesting/compelling.
  • Use dark text on a light background. Width should be 960 pixels. No Flash. No music.
  • Raise your hand if you have an active email newsletter that goes out at least 6 times per year.
  • 2 Lists – one for fans and customers, one for curious passers-by. Curious passers by: Add a “Get our Newsletter” call to action on homepage, and all your social media sites. Repurpose your blog as an email newsletter. (RSS to Email) Customers: ask permission at point of sale, or at beginning of project. Send them updates about your work, and reminders for maintenance.
