    • At the end of the revolution, nearly ten thousand slaves who fought for the colonies were freed by Virginians for their service in the Continental Army. Slavery continued in the colonies, and the new nation but was slowly abolished (ended) in the North. Slavery did not end in the South until the Civil War.
