  • 2. Ephesians 1:3-7
    • “ Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5  he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will– 6  to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.”
  • 3. You Were Formed for God’s Family
    • This is God’s Second Purpose for Your Life.
    • Remember the First Purpose. . . You Were Planned for God’s Pleasure.
    • Because God is Love, he treasures relationships.
  • 4. You Were Formed for God’s Family
    • God’s desire for a family relationship caused him to . . .
      • devise a plan to create us,
      • bring us into his family,
      • and share with us all he has.
    • “ He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.” (James 1:18)
  • 5. You Were Formed for God’s Family
    • Every human being was created by God, but not everyone is a child of God!
    • The only way to be God’s child is by being born into it.
    • “ I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” (John 3:3)
  • 6. Becoming Part of the Family
    • The invitation of be part of God’s family is universal.
      • “ If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)
      • “  I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” (Romans 1:16)
  • 7. Becoming Part of the Family
    • To become part of God’s family, we must simply accept his grace.
      • Faith in Christ – John 3:16
      • Repentance – Luke 13:3
      • Confess Christ – Matthew 10:32
      • Baptism – Mark 16:15-16
      • “ Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16  Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.”
  • 8. Benefits of Being in God’s Family
    • “ Since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:7b)
    • Paul said, “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know. . . the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.” (Ephesians 1:18)
    • The bible says God, “has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade–kept in heaven for you.” (1 Peter 1:3—4)
  • 9. Baptism: Becoming God’s Family
    • Baptism: More than Ritual.
      • “ All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18—20)
  • 10. Baptism: Becoming God’s Family
    • Every example of baptism in the NT took place without delay.
      • At Pentecost 3,000 were baptized in one day.
      • The Ethiopian eunuch was baptized on the spot on the side of the road.
      • The Philippian jailer and his family were all baptized at midnight.
  • 11. Baptism: Becoming God’s Family
    • “ Repent and be baptized , every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”  Those who accepted his message were baptized , and about three thousand were added to their number that day. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:38, 40-41, 47)
  • 12. Formed for God’s Family
    • “ Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.” (Hebrews 2:11)
