Calling for submissions from Short Film Makers
Mission Beach Film Festival
Imagine a film festival lying between World Heritage Rainforest, The Great Barrier Reef
Marine Park and island studded Coral Sea. Then imagine a program of films that entertain
and inspire us to protect the natural world we live in. The Mission Beach Film Festival
celebrates stories and people who not only imagine a better world, but do something about
it. Quirky stories, incredible individuals and inspired communities will all be celebrated at
the Mission Beach Film Festival – offering much more than you imagined.
Now, imagine your film up on the big screen at the Mission Beach Film Festival!
You are invited to submit a short film – no longer than 3 minutes – on the theme of
sustainability. Your short story must be shot in the Cassowary Coast Regional Council area
and can illuminate the audience about a whole range of issues regarding the environment.
The stories can be as varied as you want them to be and can be personal journeys, stories of
great beauty, a warning for future generations, reflective and sentimental or shocking and
hard hitting. You are free to use any storytelling technique you choose; drama,
documentary, animation or a combination of all.
Don’t be restricted by format, you can adopt any film or digital format as long as it can be
screened on DVD.
DVD’s with your short story need to be submitted to the Mission Beach Film Festival by
Wednesday 30th September. A judging panel will select the best short films to be screened
before the main feature film at Castaways on the Beach in Mission Beach on Saturday 7th
November. Awards for best films in age categories will be presented.
ALL shorts (time dependent) will be screened during the day on Saturday 7th November,
giving you the opportunity to display your talents AND imagination to family and friends.
Please include with your DVD your full name and contact details, date of birth and a short
synopsis about your film. Please also ensure you keep a copy of your film for yourself and
enclose a stamped self addressed envelope so we can return your DVD to you at the end of
the Festival.
