  4. 4. Android, Inc. was founded in Palo Alto, California, United States in October 2003 by• Andy Rubin - co-founder of Danger• Rich Miner - co-founder of Wildfire Communications, Inc.• Nick Sears- once VP at T-Mobile• Chris White- headed design and interface development at WebTV.
  5. 5. • Steve Perlman, a close friend of Rubin,brought him $10,000 in cash in an envelopeand refused a stake in the company.
  6. 6. DesignAndroid consists of:• a kernel based on the Linux kernel 2.6 andLinux Kernel 3.x (Android 4.0 onwards)with middleware, libraries and APIs writtenin C.• application software running on an applicationframework which includes Java-compatiblelibraries based on Apache Harmony.
  7. 7. The main hardware platform for Android is the ARM architecture.There is support for x86 from the Androidx86 project, and Google TV uses a specialx86 version of Android.
