Photosynthesis Part 2

 1. 1. General Hmk: CC 8.2 & 8.3 Honors Hmk: CC 7.5, 7.7 – 7.11 Objective: Light and Dark Reactions of Photosynthesis Procedure: 1. PP lecture 2. Begin homework Bell-Work: Explain this cartoon. November 8, 2006
 2. 2. PHOTOSYNTHESIS Sugar ATP & NADPH (from light reaction) and CO 2 Stroma Dark reaction (Calvin cycle) ATP & NADPH and O 2 Light energy and H 2 O Thylakoid membrane Light reaction CREATES USES LOCATION STEP
 3. 6. The pigment molecules in chlorophyll are arranged in clusters called photosystems
 4. 8. Energy photons e - excited e - heat energy
 5. 10. There are 2 types of photosystems and 2 parts to the light reactions Photosystem II Photosystem I Energy photons O 2 H 2 O e - excited e - ATP e - TC e - excited e - NADPH photons
 6. 12. 1 CO 2 glucose It takes SIX turns of the cycle to make one glucose ATP ATP NADPH ADP ADP NADP + Calvin Cycle
 7. 13. Do the dark reactions occur in the complete absence of light?

For the dark reaction to occur, NADPH and ATP must be created by the light reactions

So although it is called the dark reaction because it needs no direct light energy source, it can’t occur unless the light reactions occur

 8. 14. Clear Your Desk of everything but your notes QUIZ
 9. 15. 1 2 5 (the reaction) 6 3 4 7 8 9 10 (the reaction) 11
