  2. Helicase unwinds and separates DNA strands Initiation
  3. RNA primase lays down primers DNA starts at primers and lays down nucleotides 5’ to 3’ Leading strand goes continuously, Lagging strand goes discontinuously Elongation
  4. RNA primer is removed. Replaced with DNA nucleotides DNA ligase joins okazaki fragments with phosphodiester bonds. Helicase rewinds DNA together Termination
