- Helicase unwinds and separates DNA strands Initiation
- RNA primase lays down primers DNA starts at primers and lays down nucleotides 5’ to 3’ Leading strand goes continuously, Lagging strand goes discontinuously Elongation
- RNA primer is removed. Replaced with DNA nucleotides DNA ligase joins okazaki fragments with phosphodiester bonds. Helicase rewinds DNA together Termination
