With the process of globalization will inevitably bring the integration of cultures, cultural conflict. All scholars are increasingly concerned about the phenomenon of multi-cultural and multicultural education. Multicultural education is a hot topic in today's world. In modern society, multicultural education present ate different characteristics in different counties for the various needs of education development. China has accumulated rich experience and heritage of value in the long history of multi-language, multi-ethnic and diverse culture. It presents new characteristics under the conditions of opening, social transformation and educational reform in 21st century. This report review the origin and development of multicultural education theory and practice in recent years in China, and try to provide a full view of the distinctive feature of multicultural education developed in China.
This presentation is divided into five parts ;
“Population and Composed" mainly states the situation of China's current ethnical nationalities, race, gender, urban\rural discrepancy, class, geographical region, etc, showing the macroscopic background of the cultural diversity of China.
“Diversity of Students and Teachers in Education System” presents the diversity of students and teachers, such as the number of ethnic minorities and migrant population, urban and rural students’ proportion and gender ratio in various schools.
“The concept and theoretical foundation of multicultural” states the rise of cultural diversity, and the meaning of the concept "multicultural" in China and its theoretical basis.
“The major issues of multicultural education” is an introduction of the hotspots and major issues currently appears in China from four aspects, including ethnic minority education and educational administration system, Migrant children and inclusive education, and gender equality education.
"The Pilot Study and Experiment" focuses mainly on the progress and achievements of the pilot study in three areas: the training of ethnic minority teacher, the enhancement of women's leadership and the ethnical school improvement with language and cultural sensitive.
