  3. 3. WHAT is the meaning of CONTROLLED CHAOS? “As much control as I think I had, the world inside and outside of me felt crazy, scary and dark. I was screaming and crying inside but I did everything I could to turn it all off. While I thought I had CONTROL over my food, my weight, and my body, the CHAOS that was in my head NEVER stopped”.   4. 4. In the United States, as many as 10 million females and 1 million males are fighting a LIFE and DEATH battle with an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. Pg. 27 Yes, I said DEATH because there is a MORTALITY rate associated with EATING DISORDERS WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? Millions more are struggling with binge eating disorder…. pg As a result of SECRETIVENESS and SHAME associated with eating disorders, many cases are NOT reported… By age 6, girls especially start to express their concerns about weight or shape. 40-60% of elementary school girls (ages 6-12) are concerned about their weight or becoming too fat… Forty percent of newly identified cases of anorexia are in girls 15-19 years old. Over ½ of teenage girls and nearly 1/3 of teenage boys use unhealthy weight control behaviors such as skipping meals, fasting, smoking cigarettes, vomiting, and taking laxatives. Pg. 29

  6. 6. It could be your child, your sibling, your significant other, your grandchild, your extended family, your friend, your child’s friend, your client, and your co-worker, someone you may not know yet but will know soon OR it can be YOU…

  13. 13. So, what is an eating disorder? Eating disorders -- such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder – include extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues.
  14. 14. “But, an eating disorder will make me thin and that is what will ultimately make me happy.” NO, NO, NO!!!! THE TRUTH IS:
