    2. Welcome to the ACC Library! The ACC Library is located in the Scoville Learning  Center. Click here for a map of the ACC campus. ACC Library Virtual Tour

First, some quick stats: The Scoville building was completed in 1997.  The library has two floors.  The library has over 60,000 books.  It receives over 300 journal subscriptions.  The Library’s Web page offers access to thousands of  additional electronic books and journals. Library hours: The Library is open 72 hours a week:  Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Hours…  are posted on the Library’s Web page  vary with holidays, college breaks (winter, spring, summer).  ACC Library Virtual Tour

    6. Reference Desk: When you walk in, you’ll see the Reference Desk in front of you. It’s the most important place in the library! ACC Library Virtual Tour
    7. Reference librarians are here to assist you whenever the library is open. Make this your first stop! ACC Library Virtual Tour
    8. Reference area computers: You may use these  computers whenever the library is open. A printer is networked to these computers. There is no charge  for printing, but please use college resources wisely. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    9. ACC Library’s Web page: The Library’s page links to the online  catalog, reference and article databases, faculty information and many research guides and tutorials. You can access the ACC Library’s Web page from  off-campus. ACC students and faculty can search all book and  article databases from home! ACC Library Virtual Tour
    10. ACC Library is now wireless! Bring in your laptop, grab a comfy  chair, and search away! You’ll need your student username and password. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    11. Reference Collection: The ACC Library has about 5,000 reference books on all subjects. Reference books are a great way to get an overview of your research topic. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    12. Reference books: Reference books cannot be  borrowed. Therefore, they are always  available for you to use! Save time and effort: ask a  reference librarian which are most useful for your topic. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    13. Electronic reference books: ACC Library’s Web page also offers online reference books. Ask a librarian for details and search tips. Click the picture to search the databases live! ACC Library Virtual Tour
    14. Library of Congress system: Books, videos and  audiobooks are arranged by subject, using the Library of Congress system. This system is used by most  American college libraries. Click here to see the call  number system. Each letter represents a  broad subject, which is then sub-divided. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    15. Periodicals Area: The ACC Library  subscribes to about 340 magazines, journals and newspapers. They are shelved in  alphabetical order by title. They may be photocopied. Faculty may borrow  them. See the Periodicals  at ACC link to search journal titles. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    16. Article databases: The ACC Library also  subscribes to many article databases. Many offer full-text  articles or article citations. Search them by subject  with the Finding Articles link of the Library’s Web page. Ask a reference librarian  which databases are most useful for your research. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    17. Accessing Library databases: The Library subscribes to dozens  of book and article databases. This is usually material originally  appearing in printed form, fact- checked and written by experts. ACC students, faculty and staff  can search these databases from off-campus. ACC students need their network  username and password. Just follow directions on the Student Account Access page. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    18. Hill Collection: The Hill Collection room is located behind the  Periodicals area. The Hill family donated a collection of local history books to ACC. These books cannot be borrowed, but may be used in the library. Click here for more information.  ACC Library Virtual Tour
    19. Elevator and librarians’ offices: A door behind the video shelves leads to an elevator. It  takes you up to the library’s upper floor (3rd floor of the building). The door near the Circulation Desk leads to the staff  workroom and librarians’ offices. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    20. Videos & DVDs: The library owns almost  2000 videos and DVDs on a wide range of course-related topics. Faculty may borrow these  to show in classes. Students may view them  using equipment near the video shelves. Today’s newspapers are  located on the rack near the videos. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    21. Audiobooks: Over 200 books on tape or CD are displayed on the wall  near the videos. These include novels, language tapes and much more! These can be borrowed with a student ID card or  community borrower card for two weeks. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    22. Copy Room: Photocopy material using  one of the two copiers. They make 8 ½ X 11 and  11x17 copies. Copies are 10 cents.  The copiers make  change. Circulation Desk staff can also provide change. Ask a staff member for  assistance if you’re new to these copiers. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    23. Circulation Desk: Borrow library materials  at the circulation desk. You may borrow books  for four weeks with an ACC student ID or community borrower card Faculty also put reserve  materials here. You need your student ID to use reserve items.     24. New Book display: A selection of newly-  added books are displayed in front of the Reference Desk. Borrow these new books  if you’d like! You may borrow these  with an ACC ID card for four weeks. ACC Library Virtual Tour

Upper floor: Go up the stairs to find:  Circulating Collection books  Quiet study space  Original artwork on display  Student group study rooms  Elevator  Restrooms  Water fountains  Pencil sharpener  Drafting table (along north wall)  Library Instruction Room.  ACC Library Virtual Tour

    27. Circulating Collection: • Upstairs are 55,000 books in the Circulating Collection. You may borrow these for four weeks. • These books are also in Library of Congress call number order. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    28. The second floor of the library has wireless access,  comfortable chairs and scenic views. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    29. Quiet study area: The library’s upper floor is a quiet study area. It has conference tables, study carrels, nice views and comfortable chairs. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    30. Student group study rooms: Small groups of students may use these  three rooms to work on projects. You may reserve one in advance at the  Circulation Desk. Rooms may be reserved for two hours.  The rooms are located:  at the top of the stairs  along the east wall and  in the center of the floor  near the elevator. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    31. Also upstairs… You can use  these two stand-up computers to quickly look up book call numbers. The second  floor also has restrooms and water fountains. ACC Library Virtual Tour
    32. Library Instruction Classroom: (Scoville 325) Your classes may come to this classroom for research sessions taught by ACC librarians. ACC Library Virtual Tour

Library Instruction Room: Librarians use this room to teach  research sessions to more than 150 classes a year:  effective research strategies  book and article database searching  effective Web searching techniques  evaluation of information.
