    • 2. Welcome to the SUNY Adirondack Library!  The library is located in the Scoville Learning Center in the center of campus. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour

Library hours:  The library is open 72 hours a week during the fall and spring semester: Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.  Hours vary with holidays and college breaks (winter, spring, summer).     • 4. Some basics: SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour  The library has:  two floors;  55,000 print books;  110,000 electronic books;  more than 200 print periodicals;  more than 50,000 magazines, journals and newspapers online through dozens of subscription databases.
    • 5. SUNY Adirondack Library’s web page:  Web address: http://library.sunyacc.edu/  The site links to the book catalog, streaming videos, reference and article databases, student and faculty information, many research guides, tutorials and the Center for Reading and Writing site.  SUNY Adirondack students and faculty can access full-text books and articles with their username and password.  Username/passwords can be found on the student information system, Banner.     • 6. Reference Desk: When you walk in, you’ll see the Reference Desk. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour Reference librarians are here to assist you whenever the library is open. Make this your first stop!
    • 7. Reference area computers:  Students may use these computers whenever the library is open.  There is no charge for printing yet. Please use college resources wisely. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour
    • 8. The library has Wi-Fi:  Bring in your laptop, grab a comfy chair and search away!  Your SUNY Adirondack username and password is needed to access the campus Wi-Fi network.  The security key is posted on Banner. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour
    • 9. Reference Collection: The library offers about 4,000 reference books on the main floor. Reference books are a great way to get an overview of your research topic. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour
    • 10. Reference books:  Reference books cannot be borrowed. They are always available for you to use in the library.  Save time and effort: ask a reference librarian which are most useful for your topic.  Books are in Library of Congress SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour call number order.  About 500 reference books are available online, using databases on the library’s webpage.
    • 11. Library of Congress system:  Books, videos and audiobooks are arranged by subject, using the Library of Congress system.  Each letter represents a broad subject. The subject is then subdivided with more letters and numbers.  This system is used by most American college libraries. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour
    • 12. Periodicals: SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour  The library subscribes to about 200 magazines, journals and newspapers.  They are shelved in alphabetical order by title. They may be photocopied or scanned.  Faculty may borrow them.  See the Periodical Titles link to search journal titles.
    • 13. Article databases:  The SUNY Adirondack Library subscribes to almost 90 article databases.  They offer full-text articles and article citations.  They’re linked on the library’s webpage.  Ask a reference librarian which databases are most useful for your research. Accessing library databases:  The library’s subscription databases offer 50,000 journals and 110,000 books online.  This material originally appeared in printed form, which was fact-checked and written by subject experts.  SUNY Adirondack students, faculty and staff can search these databases from off-campus by using their network username and password.     • 15. Center for Reading and Writing  Writing center staff and faculty help students learn to organize their writing, write citations and improve proofreading skills.  Reading tutors help students read texts more effectively. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour
    • 16. Hill Collection:  The Hill Collection is located at the far end of the main floor, past the writing center, in a locked room.  The Hill family donated a collection of local history books to the college. These books cannot be borrowed, but may be used in the library. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour
    • 17. Elevator and librarians’ offices:  A door behind the periodical shelves leads to an elevator. The elevator goes to the library’s upper floor (third floor of the building).  The door near the Circulation Desk leads to the staff workroom and librarians’ offices.     • 18. Videos and DVDs:  The library owns almost 2000 videos and DVDs on a wide range of course-related SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour topics.  Faculty may borrow these to show in classes.  Students may view them using equipment on the main floor.
    • 19. Audiobooks:  Spoken books on CD are displayed on the wall near the SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour Copy Room.  These include novels, language tapes and much more.  These can be borrowed with a student ID card, photo ID or community borrower card for two weeks.
    • 20. Copy Room:  The copier will print to 8 ½" by 11" or 11" x 17" paper. Copies are 10 cents.  Users can also scan to a flash drive at no cost.     • 21. Circulation Desk:  Borrow library materials at the circulation desk.  You may borrow books for four weeks with an SUNY Adirondack student ID, photo ID or community borrower card.  Faculty also put reserve materials here. Students need a photo ID to borrow reserve items, which must be used in the library.  Students may reserve group study rooms here. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour
    • 22. New Book display:  A selection of newly-added SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour books are displayed in front of the Reference Desk.  You may borrow these with an SUNY Adirondack ID card for four weeks.
    • 23. Upper floor:  Go up the stairs to find:  Circulating Collection books  Quiet study space  Original artwork on display  Student group study rooms SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour  Elevator  Restrooms  Water fountains  Pencil sharpener  Library Instruction Room.
    • 24. Circulating Collection: • Upstairs are 55,000 books in the Circulating Collection. You may borrow these for four weeks. • These books are also in Library of Congress call number order. Just follow the shelf signs. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour

    • 26. Quiet study area: The library’s upper floor is a SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour quiet study area. Whispers only, please!
    • 27. Student group study rooms:  Small groups of students may use these three rooms to work on projects.  You may reserve one in advance at the Circulation Desk.  Rooms may be reserved for two SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour hours.  Two rooms have computers.  All three have TV/VCR/DVD players.  The three rooms are located:  at the top of the stairs  along the east wall and  in the center of the floor near the elevator.
    • 28. Also upstairs… SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour  You can use these two stand-up computers to quickly look up book call numbers.  Restrooms and water fountains are located at the top of the stairs.
    • 29. Library Instruction Classroom: (Scoville 325)  Librarians teach research techniques to more than 130 classes and 2100 students each year in this room. SUNY Adirondack Library Virtual Tour  Student learn how to search book and article databases and find high-quality information in these sessions.  The room has 14 computers. Students may also use their own laptops or tablets.
