Coral Island was also a book about being stranded on an Island, but it ended happily and how all the boys were civil the entire time. GOlding didn’t believe in this and wrote Lord of the Flies as sort of a rebuttle.

    Let me try this again.

Those are the major characters in Coral Island, which is a book (look again at slide 10). The major characters in Lord of the Flies are Jack, Ralph, Piggy and Simon. Two out of three ain’t bad. Plus, you throw in that another name for Jesus’ disciple Peter was Simon Peter and you have all the makings of a good old fashioned religious symbolism.

As for the Coral Island reference, re-read the last part of the book when the boys are 'rescued' from the island by that British sailor.
