    1. Alienation & Isolation – searching for a place in the world Reading & Writing Collaboration Unit
    2. What is this collaboration project?
      • You choose a book from the three to read.
      • Organize in-class group discussions about the book.
      • Maintain a group wiki to compile your group’s ideas and thinking.
    3. What should you come to understand at the end of this unit?
      • People discover their own identity through experiences, both positive and negative, and by figuring out where they fit in the world around them.
      • Characters in literature face many of the same conflicts and experiences that we do.
      • Sharing our thoughts and purposefully collaborating can help us develop a greater understanding of our own ideas.
    4. Essential questions…
      • How do we know who we really are and what we believe in?
      • What are some common human conflicts faced by the main character? What makes this like things I've experienced?
      • What can I learn from my classmates? How do I learn it?
    5. Why use a wiki with this unit?
      • It’s an easily accessible document that can be edited by multiple people
      • Promotes sharing of ideas between people
      • Uses technology to encourages collaboration of ideas
    6. Materials needed
      • One of three novels – Black Boy or The Color of Water or Frankenstein
      • Class wiki at: http://bhsenglish10.wikispaces.com
      • An open mind and willingness to collaborate with one another
    7. This is what you will see when you log on…
    8. Start by having one group member create a new page here…
    9. Give your group’s page a name – the book title and class period Black Boy – period 4
    10. Select the assignment template
    11. Now you’re ready to edit. Type right into page… … Press save when you’re done.
    12. At any time navigate your way back to the main page over here
