The Research Center in Business Modeling of the Caribbean Coast(Fundación Centro de Investigación en Modelación Empresarial delCaribe – FCIMEC) plays an important role in stimulating the potential ofthe Caribbean Coast. Its efforts are focused towards the innovation anddevelopment in fundamental areas of the industry, such as theoptimization of productive and logistic systems, as well as thepromising future that the bio-industry has as an environmental pillar ofsustainable development.FCIMEC aims to be recognized, at a national and international level, as aresearch center capable of providing solutions to all engineeringproblems that businesses confront nowadays. In order to make thispossible, FCIMEC has put all its effort into obtaining well-formed andexperienced engineers in different areas of research; it also facilitatescollaborative investigations and has been preparing the futureworkforce in the different fields of study.
MISSIONFCIMEC is a non-profit organization for technological development andinnovation, directed towards the application of knowledge in the industry throughthe different areas of business modeling.The Center’s mission is not only oriented towards providing the knowledge thatour group of researchers have in engineering, but also towards having a directimpact with engineering discoveries and new methodologies, as actors of thenational science and technology system. This is achieved through thedesign, execution and management of research projects, that allows the growthand improvement of the industrial sector.FCIMEC is confident that this can be obtained, through the experience of itsmembers and the level of scientific formation that they have, as well as theirreproachable ethical and professional backgrounds that characterizes them in allconsulting processes, advisory services and projects; and the achievementsobtained in academic and industrial associations, nationwide.
VISIONFCIMEC will be positioned as a leader in the development of projects in all areas ofbusiness modeling , providing integral solutions to engineering problems thatbusinesses confront daily, in order to gain the highest standards in productivity andcompetitiveness.FCIMEC will be recognized at an international level as an advanced science-andtechnology-oriented institution for research with an integral formation of itsmembers, a high level of knowledge in the products and services offered tobusinesses, and the impact made in the projects generated.FCIMEC will be shown as a socially responsible institution through the design andimplementation of research projects that consider the demands made on society, aswell as scientific innovation and technology in this area.FCIMEC is visualized as an institution that operates from the Colombian CaribbeanCoast to the rest of the Caribbean Basin, through alliances made with other researchgroups all around the world, as it has already established in its development plan, withthe purpose of positioning itself as a leader in applied research in engineering.
HISTORYThe Research Center in Business Modeling of the Caribbean Coast (FCIMEC)started in the city of Barranquilla, Colombia in January of 2009 through theinitiative of various members of the scientific community and entrepreneursfrom this country, who recognized the Colombian Caribbean Region as acenter of industrial and logistic growth. Through their academic and businessbackgrounds, they believed that scientific research can revolutionize the waybusiness works in the Caribbean coast and believe this may expand to allbusiness sectors in the country and the whole Caribbean Basin.This institution has integrated a group of engineers from all the disciplines ofengineering, who have the formation and experience in research projects thathave made a significant impact on today’s national science and technologysystem. This has been done by combining science, technological developmentand innovation with industrial application, offering businesses the possibilityof generating projects and programs that may incorporate scientificknowledge into their decision making and establishing clear advantages in theeconomic sectors they are immersed in.
SimOptThis research group started in 2005, mostly of industrial engineers,who began to work independently in their different areas of research,and then joined some international advisors, who have supported thework done by this group. Today this group is composed of otherdisciplines in the study of engineering.FCIMEC certified and recognized this group in COLCIENCIAS (TheDepartment of Science, Technology and Innovation in Colombia),identified as COL0017843. BioIndustThis research group started in 2010, as an initiative ofchemical, food and agricultural engineers, members ofFCIMEC, who have worked and explored the promisingfuture that Bio-industry has, directing its efforts in bio-industrial and agricultural projects.This research group is still working to become recognizedin COLCIENCIAS.
