    3. About the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network • Using the \"original\" Computer Clubhouse as a model, the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network supports community-based Computer Clubhouses around the world, providing thousands of youth with access to resources, skills, and experiences to help them succeed in their careers, contribute to their communities, and lead outstanding lives
    4. WHY ? Access Gap V Fluency Gap Today, discussions about the “digital divide” typically focus on differences in access to computers or broadband. That will change. As the costs of computing decline, people everywhere will gain better access to digital technology. But there is a real risk that only a small handful will be able to use the technologies fluently. In short, the “access gap” will shrink, but a serious “fluency gap” could remain. remain Mitchell Resnick, Cofounder Computer Clubhouse
    5. HOW? The Computer Clubhouse provides a creative and safe after-school learning environment where young people from under-served communities work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology.
    6. HOW? Clubhouse members work together with adult and peer level mentors on creative, self-directed projects, such as: • Digital story telling • Robotics and engineering • 3D design, game-making • Digital art, video and music production • Web Design • Logo programming
    7. IMPACT Research conducted by SRI International shows that the Computer Clubhouse learning model both globally and here in NZ, promotes educational engagement, social/cultural capital and a multi- intelligence approach to learning: •Youth that are engaged learners stay in SRI Youth Impact Study Computer Clubhouse school. Research indicates benefits for MAY 2008 both the long term labour force (Creative Arts/ ICT) and the social development of the individual and wider community •Nations like NZ have an equal footing in the digital market place for creating 21st Century thinkers. The Computer Clubhouse’s proven learning model is doing just that.
