  2. 2. Digital Portfolios <ul><li>Statement of Need </li></ul><ul><li>Students of the 21st century are adept at utilizing technology for entertainment, communication, and learning. While schools continue to press the need for reflective learners, we have not provided our students with a purpose for reflection or a means through which to demonstrate reflection. Incorporating a reflective digital portfolio into the school culture would play to the students’ strengths, interests, and satisfy the schools’ need for demonstrating understanding and learning. </li></ul>

Digital Portfolios <ul><li>Baseline Data </li></ul><ul><ul><li>100% of Freshmen are enrolled in an Intro To Technology course </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>12% of our teacher currently require digital projects </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>100% of our rooms are wired for internet access </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Over 75 computers are available to our students for use </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Preliminary surveys have shown that over 80% of our students have one or more computers at home </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Surveys also indicate that nearly all of our students are highly proficient at utilizing one or more programs, other than the Internet. </li></ul></ul>

Digital Portfolios <ul><li>What are they? </li></ul><ul><li>A collection of a student’s work that reflects what has been learned and accomplished over a period of time. </li></ul><ul><li>Why make portfolios digital? </li></ul><ul><li>Digital portfolios can store multimedia </li></ul><ul><li>Are easily updated </li></ul><ul><li>Are accessible to everyone - at any time </li></ul><ul><li>And enhance the use of vital technological abilities. </li></ul>

Digital Portfolios <ul><li>What is its purpose? </li></ul><ul><li>“ Through the use of portfolios, teachers and students can develop a shared understanding of what constitutes quality work, and acquire a common language for evaluating students’ accomplishments. Maintaining portfolios will provide specific evidence as to what the students have attempted, achieved, and learned during their high school career as well as offer the pragmatic experience necessary to compete in today’ s technological society”. (CGHS) </li></ul>

  11. 11. 7-Year Implementation Plan <ul><li>Form a school based Technology Committee: Technology Committee: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Acquire and review the district’s Technology Plan </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Develop a 3-year Technology Improvement Plan (TIP) for the building specifically addressing the needs related to digital portfolios </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Increase student access to computers and computer labs in the school for digital portfolio design purposes </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Design a technology workshops program for teachers and administrators specific to building digital portfolios </li></ul></ul>
  12. 12. 7-Year Implementation Plan <ul><li>Tech Committee Continued: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Survey faculty and students yearly on TIP progress </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Review, yearly, faculty and student surveys </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Provide workshops for teachers and administrators specific to digital portfolios </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Train teachers in the use of software and utilization of currently available technology </li></ul></ul>
  13. 13. 7-Year Implementation Plan <ul><li>Form a Student Portfolio Assessment Committee (SPACE) </li></ul><ul><li>SPACE develops criteria for digital portfolios: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Research portfolio projects and assessment in other districts (state and national) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Visit local districts currently involved with digital portfolios </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Provide professional development for SPACE members on assessing digital portfolios </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Create rubric, standards, and assessment tools for projects </li></ul></ul>
  14. 14. 7-Year Implementation Plan <ul><li>Revise and improve Intro To Technology curriculum to include teaching of skills specific to the completion of a digital portfolio Implement changes in Intro to Technology curriculum specific to creating digital portfolios </li></ul><ul><li>Provide professional development for faculty regarding technology use for class assignments </li></ul>
  15. 15. 7-Year Implementation Plan <ul><li>Prepare and present Classes of 2011-2015 portfolio requirements. </li></ul><ul><li>SPACE organizes reviews assessment schedules with faculty, parents, and students. </li></ul>
