      • Cashless Catering Backoffice Server (ID cards)
      • Terminal Servers.....and many more
  • Challenges
    • Cost
      • Deploying Windows 7 has allowed the school to use their existing computers (up to 3 years old) in the new school
    • Time
      • Microsoft Deployment Toolkit has helped to speed up the deployment of the client computers
    • Change
      • 4 networks to 1, new OS, new version of Office
  • Group Policy Challenges
    • Staff are issued with a laptop which can be used at home
    • Their work needs to sync with the laptop, but not sync when they log in to a desktop
    • This is achieved with WMI filtering of GPOs so that syncing only happens on there laptop
  • Successes
    • School opened on time!
    • 1300 pupils and 100+ staff all using Windows 7
    • Only 2 MDT task sequences used to deploy all the schools computers
    • No negative comments about the new OS
    • All Teaching staff use SIMS Lesson Monitor as a RemoteApp via Wireless!
    • App-V extensively used to roll-out new applications
  • Remaining issues
    • Start Menu – causing slow login?
    • IASO Backup software causing some problems
    • User provisioning has been problematic
    • Some user data failed to transfer
    • Need to deploy SCCM once the App-V apps are imported
  • Tips
    • WMI filtering and Security Filtering for Group Policy Objects
    • Group Policy Preferences – we no longer need a login script at drives are mapped via GPO’s
    • MDT is a fantastic tool....and it’s free!!
    • MDOP – App-V is a real time saver!
  • Future Developments
    • Wireless configured so that pupils and visitors can use their own laptops
    • More Terminal Servers hosting Applications that pupils can use remotely via Portal
    • Add Bitlocker to staff laptops
    • Every pupil has a device
