  • Understanding God’s word requires a readiness to LISTEN
A constant talker cannot hear what anyone else has to say
Anger does not allow Righteous to flourish
  • “get rid of” in Greek = take off
Not a meekness of a wimp, but of a strong man who humbles himself and knows his nature
Implanted word.... this is written to believers, calling them to grow to fullness, not atrophy
  • without substance of course:)

  • Just hearing/reading isn’t enough..... God’s word inherently changes people. No change = Danger
Katanoeo = attentive scrutiny of an object.... John 20
This man knows God’s word and what is expected of him, but fails to follow through
These are the most frustrating people in the church and the most God dishonoring leaders in the church
  • 1. “looks intently” = parakypto = penetrating absorption (used in John 20:5) stooping over scripture, searching it
    2. Perseveres = continues to absorb..lifelong learner
    3. Lives life never forgetting the good news
    4. Puts truth into action
  • Example of words, but it isn’t specific, so it shouldn’t be taken literal given context of previous passages
The point is that this person is playing the part of being religious, but their lives are a mess
Action must spring forth out of the Gospel working internally......

  • The greek here calls the rich man one of royalty or political office .. “to look with favor upon”
The poor man is called “dirty” and asked to sit in the back.. “by my footstool”
Greek play on words, it’s a rhetorical question.... they are doing this
  • Christianity was built by God on the marginalized
Since their scattering, they have become like the world and care about financial trappings.... no place in the kingdom
They “exploit” you, think less of you, and mock God with their lives, yet you grovel at their feet?
  • Moral Argument... Love your neighbor is key throughout scripture
Showing favor to anyone is sin... ANYONE!!
FOR = example of favoritism makes you a lawbreaker
The law requires perfection, which is why we need Jesus

  • Remember that these are believers he is writing to
You are free, but there must be continuous action/growth in knowledge & behavior
Judgement without mercy is for the unsaved, but for the saved mercy triumphs because of Jesus
SO.... why are you acting this way?
  • Is this book a joke to you?
  • Is this book a joke to you?
  • Anyone who acts like paparrazi should never be in leadership
Also, there should never be a decision in the church made because of a “certain group” or a “certain person” because that is a sin
You have been shown mercy for eternity, so you MUST show mercy for this life
