6. Are You Confused Too?
The quot;will of Godquot; is one of the most confusing phrases in
the Christian vocabulary. Sometimes we speak of all things
happening according to God's will. Other times we talk
about being obedient and doing the will of God. And still
other times we talk about ļ¬nding the will of God.The
confusion is due to our using the phrase quot;the will of Godquot; in
at least three different ways, typiļ¬ed in the previous three
sentences.
12. Will of Decree = Providential
Godās gonna do no matter what
13. Will of Decree = Providential

26. Proverbs 2
3Ā yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for
understanding,4Ā if you seek it like silver and search for it
as for hidden treasures,5Ā then you will understand the
fear of the Lord and ļ¬nd the knowledge of God. 6Ā For the
Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and
understanding;7Ā he stores up sound wisdom for the
upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8Ā guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way
of his saints.

35. Romans 12
1Ā I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the
mercies of God, to present your bodies as a
living sacriļ¬ce, holy and acceptable to God,
which is your spiritual worship. 2Ā Do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewal of your mind, that by testing you
may discern what is the will of God, what is
good and acceptable and perfect.
Faith in Jesus does not guarantee that everything will go our way. Look at Hebrews 11, the chapter sometimes called the faith hall of fame. Consider just the first three heroes mentioned in that chapter. As Bible commentator Bruce Waltke has pointed out, Abel had faith and he died; Enoch had faith and he did not die; Noah had faith and everyone else died! So just having faith doesn't guarantee your life-or the lives of those around you-will be all candy canes and lollipops. Life isn't always fun, and we shouldn't expect it to be.
I'm arguing that our eagerness to know God's will is probably less indicative of a heart desperately wanting to obey God and more about our heads spinning with all the choices to be made. Let's not spiritualize our inability to make decisions in the quest to discover God's will.
I am not suspicious EVERY time someone tells me they’ve “heard” from God, because I believe he still does talk to us.
However, I’m not blown away by when people do say that, or immediately bless whatever God “told” you.
I will never treat a “special word” from God at a level I treat the sure word of God found in the Bible.
