It hasLTE Offers continually been at the forefront of innovation in telecommunications, and this is typified by their network investment in, and roll out of, LTE. This operator has consistently provided an excellent mobile data experience for their customers which is reflected by the operator’s continued growth in wireless data ARPU. Solution: Openet supplied Evolved Charging, Balance Manager, Mediation, and Policy Manager to this leading operator. These products monetize and control 3G, 4G and LTE data services. In addition to this, Openet also collects voice CDRs from the network for charging and billing. The first opportunity was to launch the new mobile operator and win market share through developing differentiated offers, and then keep and grow the customers by providing innovative services that will generate loyalty. Solution: Openet supplied their Policy Manager and Evolved Charging products. With these products the operator can help realize the market opportunity by: yy Providing innovative packages and bundles yy Building a platform which is capable of launching FMC bundles yy Maximizing ROI: have the ability to monetize services from day 1 yy Integrating real-time charging for all services with controls—e.g. parental control for internet usage, spend and usage controls for pre-paid yy Enabling rapid creation of new offers—e.g. mobile data pricing tiers by usage and time of day, bundled fixed/mobile offers to existing fixed line customers Openet integrated their solutions with a range of Huawei network platforms for voice, data and messaging services as well as back office systems, such as the Amdocs billing system, where Openet collects and rates real-time traffic and can pass it back to Amdocs for traditional batch based billing. Results Within one month of launch the mobile operator gained almost 200,000 new customers and by one year subscribers had passed the 1,000,000 mark. This Tier 1 operator, with over 14.7M mobile subscribers provides a mobile TV service to meet their subscribers’ growing appetite for wireless video content. The operator is part of one of the world’s leading mobile groups and the quality of mobile video delivered needs to be of the consistent high quality that the group’s brand demands, while at the same time controlling costs. Solution Openet already supplied their Policy Manager, Evolved Charging, and Mediation systems to this operator. The redirection capability also reduces the number of calls to customer care and also provides a direct, personalized sales tool, as well as reducing opex. As a new entrant in a highly competitive and saturatedNetwork QoS market, the operator needed to be innovative to win and retain new subscribers, while at the same time protecting their network investment. Results This company is the fastest growing operator in one of the most populous countries in the world. Launching in 2008, by 2011 the operator had over 17M subscribers. The operator was able to enjoy this growth by providing innovative tariffs and services to win new customers (e.g. free access for facebook) which differentiate over competitors. However, in order to ensure network optimization and the best network experience for subscribers, the operator delivers mobile data fair usage and differing QoS to protect network investment and enable superior customer network experience. Key to this was the need to develop value based data and content bundles that would attract and educate customers on the real benefits of mobile data and content. In order to deliver these value based offers it was important that the operator had flexibility in pricing, packaging and charging of content to offer value based models that can be tailored quickly and easily. As well as increasing broadband usage, this operator needed controls in place toDevelopment protect network investment and optimize return on investment. STRICTLY INTERNAL USE ONLYData Roaming A1 Telekom AustriaManagement In July 2010, the European Union passed legislation that required mobile operators to implement bill shock measures for data roaming in Europe. As the leading telecommunications operator in Austria with over 5.3 million mobile subscribers and almost 40% market share, A1 Telekom Austria wanted to comply with this legislation and avoid bill shock for its customers. Meeting this legislation required that data usage and spend are tracked in real-time, and notifications sent to customers when they reach 80% of a pre-defined limit. Solution Openet supplied Evolved Charging and Network Edge Rating products, enabling A1 Telekom Austria to: yy Meet EU Data Roaming Regulations by improving transparency of customer data and roaming costs to avoid bill shock yy Manage roaming data usage in real-time for subscribers, and enforce data volume or monetary caps yy Notify its subscribers when pre-defined thresholds have been met, & offer the option to extend their usage beyond the cap Openet integrated their solutions with Nortel and Cisco/Starent network equipment, and billing systems, including Amdocs. As bill shock measures need to be real-time, Openet collects and rates data usage and makes the records available in real- time. This results in significant savings as the billing systems don’t need expensive additions built to enable them to cater for real-time applications such as bill shock controls. Results Using Openet’s Evolved Charging and Network Edge Rating products, A1 Telekom Austria was able to meet the EU data roaming regulations well in advance of the regulatory deadline. The real-time capabilities gave A1 Telekom Austria the competitive edge to manage data balances, trigger notifications, and provide subscribers with maximum flexibility when roaming in the EU. As an example of delivering innovative offers, this operator was one of the first in the world to offer multi-device shared data bundles. The operator’s approach to making it easy and compellingCharging for customers to use the high-speed data, new applications and new devices is resulting in growth in profitability, revenues and ARPU. Solution Openet supplied Evolved Charging, Network Edge Rating, & Balance Manager, enabling this leading operator to: yy Develop innovative data plans and bundles yy Provide in-app charging/billing for third-party content and app providers yy Provide convergent real-time charging—pre and post-paid convergence for data and value-added services yy Provide content ‘gifting’—e.g. a subscriber can buy content and gift to another subscriber Openet integrated their solutions with Nokia Siemens Networks and Alcatel-Lucent equipment and platforms to enable real-time collection of usage. With over 7 million subscribers, this operator requires Openet’s solutions to deliver the real- time performance needed to succeed. With a subscriber base that is predominately post-paid, it was important that these customers could benefit from the real-time capabilities and flexibility of Openet’s charging and rating product. By collecting and rating data traffic in real-time, Openet’s charging platform can pass rated data usage back to the billing platform (Amdocs), delivering real-time capabilities to traditional post-paid customers, while enabling the operators to protect their existing billing investment. Results Increasing data usage and an improved customer experience has enabled the operator to outperform all of their competitors and increase their market and revenue share. The operator is enjoying wireless EDITDA growth of over 15%, increase in post- paid net activations of over 17%, over 4% ARPU growth and a data revenue growth of almost 30%. As such, theyCustomers: Real-Time needed to provide flexible pricing and promotion models to meet consumer demand for their data products and services, and provide the best possible wireless experience for their customers.Adjunct Billing Solution Openet supplied their Evolved Charging and Network Edge Rating products in order to enable Meteor to: yy Provide sophisticated charging and pricing plans in order to offer attractive pricing options that encourage data usage and spend yy Provide more control, such as customer spending limits, and enable compliance with EU data roaming bill shock legislation yy Provide subscription based options, day passes, and data bundles yy Consolidate post-paid and pre-paid data charging transactions on a single platform Openet integrated their solutions with Cisco and Ericsson network equipment and platforms, as well as several downstream B/OSS platforms including the Single View billing system from CSG International. By integrating with the billing system, Openet provides data traffic, collected and rated in real-time, to billing, thus enabling post-paid customers to benefit from real-time use cases, such as bill shock notifications. Results Since implementing Openet’s Convergent Charging and Network Edge Rating products, Meteor has enjoyed significant data growth, by having the systems in place to provide flexible pricing and promotion models. Meteor is also using the systems to comply with the EU data roaming legislation. With this infrastructure in place, Meteor is able to comply with the roaming regulations and also has the necessary tools in place to meet the growing data demands of its subscribers. Providing converged voice and data, pre- and post-paid services, allowed this operator to create compelling, differentiated offerings, such as mobile internetData Services and voice, together in a seamless plan. This is necessary to attract and retain customers in a high churn market. The challenge was how to monetize these offers using a single charging system, and provide the flexibility required to roll out new charging models in response to customer and market advances. In order to supply customers with the services they want, this convergent operator needs to continually develop and supply innovative offers. Many of the operator’s customers are 3G and ADSL users, as well as pre-paid and post-paidControls subscribers. To meet the demands of such customers, the operator needed to provide innovative FMC offers. The operator wanted to provide convergent financial control and to provide customer specific convergent offers that provide flexibility and personalization for FMC products. Results The operator has been able to deploy innovative, differentiated, convergent offers and bundles to win new customers and increase customer spend. Recognizing that many customers don’t use data roaming due to uncertainty about costs, this operator worked with Openet to utilize their Openet PCC solution to deliver data roaming service passes which would provide peace of mind for their customers and increase data roaming revenues for the operator. In addition to the opportunity presented by data roaming, this operator also wanted to optimize network capacity to ensure the best network experience for all its customers. They aimed to achieve this by putting specific controls in place to enable plans which could shape data usage and ease network congestion through the use of advanced service tiers. Solution Openet supplied Policy Manager in order to enable the operator to: yy Shape and control the data traffic from subscribers during data sessions on the operator’s 3G network yy Create multiple data plans targeted at user needs and usage behavior by enabling application restrictions by plan – e.g. if a customer wants to use OTT VoIP services then they need to use the right plan yy Provide real-time notifications, to ensure costs are clear and minimize bill shock yy Enforce EU roaming bill-shock legislation yy Provide fair usage subscriber reports Integrating with platforms from Starent and Lucent, Openet’s systems have the level of interoperability to enable additional network equipment to be easily integrated, thus allowing smooth transition to cater for any new network equipment when required. Results Increasing data usage and an improved customer experience has enabled this operator to out-perform all their competitors and increase their market and revenue share.
