Paul’s simple statement of belief in God is the foundation of all church creeds. It is found in 1Cor 8:6.The words are simple yet packed with meaning. We will carefully unpack them by comparing the apostle’s own comments on them, “comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”
Let’s start by observing the context in which Paul makes his declaration of faith in the one God.We “know nothing yet”, we don’t know anything yet, as we ought to know. Now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face! This is God’s promise! Rev 22:4 “And they shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads”If we love God, God knows us. And when He comes and He knocks on our door, and we open the door, He says, “I know you! I will come in and sup with you!” So, those who come knocking on His door after it is shut and He says, “I never knew you” do not really love God.If you love God, He knows you; If you do not love God, He does not know you.God begins the transcript of His character by assuring us that we will need no other god—because I brought you out of the land of Egypt on eagle’s wings, I will supply all your needs; I will be the only God you will ever need. Men have created many gods and many lords. The heathen pantheons are full of them. They worship they know not what.
Now Paul clearly and succinctly describes the one true God.
The Christ-headThe Man-headThe God-head……not a group, but an Authority, HeadmasterGodhead as a group, a committee, a collection of Deity, a trinity is a misconceptionSanctuary in 1844 was a misconception: the earth Godhead is not a trinity, but the one God of whom are all things;Sanctuary is not the earth, but the temple of God built without hands.
We are the members of Christ’s Body, of which He is the Head.
Man is head of the household, the house-band, the protector and provider for the family.
God is the headship of His Son, He has given His Son all things, the Great Provider and Source.
Notice the parallel relationships of Source and Creator, of whom and by whom.
11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
11:8 For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.
Now the relationship of “for” is discussed. It is based on the sequence of events.Man, Adam, was formed first then the Woman, Eve.Just as Man was made first, then the Sabbath was provided FOR man.
Eve came out of Adam, she was “OF” the man.But then “BY” Eve, the woman, all men have been born.Genesis3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
