Harris is a Senior Fellow with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). He is also a Fellow[1], with SUNY, The Levin Institute. He served in the Israeli Defense Forces, rising to the rank of major.[2] He was the vice president for finance & marketing at Tomer Industries, Timorim (1986-1989). Dr. Harris was selected as the most successful Israeli in academics.[18] 2012, assumed duties as “Honorary Wing Commander” for the 434th Air Refueling Wing at Grissom Air Reserve Base.[19] 2012, The Indiana Commission for Higher Education, in their 2012 Strategic Plan, Reaching Higher, Achieving More, stated that Chancellor Harris has made increasing graduation rates a top priority for IU Kokomo and convened a task force to pursue bold, innovative ways to make it happen.[20] 2011, the Kokomo Perspective stated that "Governor Mitch Daniels appointed Indiana University Kokomo Chancellor Michael Harris to serve on the Indiana Automotive Council (IAC)—a newly formed group of automotive experts to enhance, grow, and promote the automotive industry in Indiana."[21] 2011, The Kokomo Perspective named Dr. Harris, the Person of the Year for 2011, stating, "He wasted little time in making his presence felt academically, athletically, and as a member of the larger community."[22] 2011, Presented an award by Lee Se-Ung, Ph.D., the Chairman of the Shin II Educational Foundation Board for: “furthering the globalization of education.” Seoul, South Korea.
