    2. 2. Bahir Dar is a beautiful city with tree-lined avenues and set on the shores of the deep blue Lake Tana. Measuring 68 km by 73 km, Tana is Ethiopia's largest lake and famous for the churches and monasteries on 20 of the lake's 37 islands. Bahir Dar city lies on the southern tip of Lake Tana. The city enjoys tropical type of climate with an average temperature of 17.50c.
    3. 3. Today the city is developing fast into a place of considerable social, political and economic activities, with a population of about 130,000 people.     4. 4. A recently acquired hobby of the current president of Ethiopia is having war memorials dedicated to the Derg and Ethiopian resistance to the Derg constructed.
    5. 5. The Derg is the short name of the Coordinating Committee of the Armed Forces, Police, and Territorial Army that ruled Ethiopia from 1974 to 1987. Between 1975 and 1987, the Derg executed and imprisoned tens of thousands of its opponents without trial. After internal conflicts that resulted in the executions of General Tafari Benti and several of his supporters by November 1977, and the later execution of Colonel Atnafu Abate, Mengistu gained undisputed leadership of the Derg.

    9. 9. The Blue Nile is a river originating at Lake Tana in Ethiopia. With the White Nile, the river is one of the two major tributaries of the Nile. The upper reaches of the river is called the Abbay in Ethiopia, where it is considered holy by many, and is believed to be the River Gihon mentioned as flowing out of the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2
