Thank you!
The Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery, just outside Nyaung Shwe, is a fascinating wooden monastery built in the early 19th Century. It is a very interesting red painted teak wood building with oval windows

  1. 1. http://www.authorstream.com/Presentation/michaelasanda-2091124-myanmar57/
  2. 2. Inle Lake, the second largest lake in Myanmar, is a freshwater lake located in the Shan Hills. Hpaung Daw U Pagoda (also spelt Hpaung Daw Oo or Phaung Daw Oo) is a notable Buddhist site located on the Inle Lake in Shan State.
  3. 3. Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery is a 19th century monastery built entirely of teak, painted red, that today remains in full operation as school and home for young novice monks and their teachers.
  4. 4. Nyaung Shwe is a small town popular with tourists visiting Inle Lake. It consists of one main thoroughfare with many side streets and just a few parallel roads.. It also serves as a marina for a lot of long boats carrying tourists into Inle lake.
  5. 5. The Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery is a short walk to the north of town and is well known by photographers because of its unique architecture.
  6. 6. Photographers are drawn to it for its unique oval windows – and the incredible light found inside - and for the white stucco temple next to it with its red interior and thousands of niches, each holding a small Buddha.
