Menelik II (1844-1913), is the emperor of Abyssinia (1889-1910) who established independence from Italy (he defeated the Italians at Aduwa 1896) and expanded Ethiopia's borders through military conquests.
Menelik Mausoleum – Menelik Mausoleum is situated in the enclaves of the old palace under Batta Church. It was built in 1911 and houses the crypts of Emperor Menelik II, his wife, Empress Taitu and his daughter, Empress Zawditu.
