  • 1. Click on Sign Up!
Type in publicearth.com in your web browser
  • 2. Use your school email and password
Username: Keep it as simple as possible, my username is mmccabe. Your username will be left on all places you edit or create
  • 3. If you did it right, your username will appear. You can now click on 'My Profile' if you want to add more. Lets click on PlaceBook
  • 4. Your PlaceBook is a collection of your spots. You have 'tagged' each of these spots. You can classify your 'tags' in several different ways.
  • 5. To create a place, click the 'Create' tab and adjust the area you're 'Exploring' by hitting the change button. You can enter Zip codes, States, cities, or latitude and longitudes. Try changing the location to 54136. Now enter 'Kimberly 54136'.
  • 6. Hopefully your in Kimberly, WI & not Sweden. Now to create a new point, all you have to do is select the 'point' button and drag the blue P to where you want to create the location. Click the P in place and give it a name.
  • 7. I prefer to use 'Hybrid' view so I can get a better perspective on where I'm putting down the point. Once you've made your location, you have now established a 'Pin Location'
  • 8. A Pin Location is the exact location of a place, trail, group, region, country, etc
There is only one pin location per place, if you find 'CORE Charter School', you'll notice the creator is mmccabe.
Take some time in the Search & Explore area to search out your area.
  • 9. Your Assignment
What places are not listed on PublicEarth? Think about places personal to you that may not be easily accessible from Googling...

Favorite family owned business, video game store, movie store, restaurant...

Time to be original. This is an opportunity to exhibit 21st Century skills such as Problem Solving & Critical Thinking, as well as, Good Communication and Collaboration. YOU NEED TO CREATE A PLACE, FRIEND A CLASSMATE, AND COMMENT ON ONE OF THEIR PLACES. Take it one step at a time.
