  • Nauvoo quickly became more or less autonomous - its own Mormon city-state in Illinois - with Smith as its mayor

    A group of Mormons started a newspaper critical of Smith. He ordered it closed, and was then arrested by Illinois and taken to Carthage. By this time, tensions were high, and a large mob rushed the jail, shooting and killed Smith.

Yes No They follow Jesus Christ They don’t believe Jesus is “God of God” or “only begotten Son” ...accept the Bible ...also accept nonBiblical Scriptures ...call themselves Christian ...didn’t for a long time ...see historical Christianity as false teaching ...believe in Christian doctrines ...define these doctrines in like salvation. radically different ways. This is an entirely different question than “Are individual Mormons Christian?” or “Can individual Mormons be saved?” 16
