The retailer, which lost gobs of money last year and could very well die this year, simply cannot catcha break. This time it put up a seemingly harmless billboard in California. But wouldnt you know it—people are alreadysaying the tea kettle on the billboard looks like Hitler. Thats a stretch, but somehow not surprising, given how star-crossed this company seems to be these days.http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/unable-catch-break-jcpenney-puts-billboard-showing-tea-kettle-looks-hitler-149835

Butrather than let HR weed out applicants arbitrarily, Flickr decided to hide a link to its job postings for coders somewhereonly worthy coding applicants would ever find it—inside the source code of its website. Of course, the effect is kind ofruined by other websites posting about it with screenshots of the message, but such is the price of good ideas.http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/flickr-recruits-coders-ads-hidden-its-websites-source-code-149818

The cue-ball-headed Kassabian makes liberal use of air quotes indescribing his clients supposed innocence—but really, its all the same to him.http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/flickr-recruits-coders-ads-hidden-its-websites-source-code-149818

To prove that Hellmanns mayonnaise goeswith just about anything, Ogilvy Brazil created the Food Slot, a slot machine that doles out over 280 different recipesmade with Hellmans. For each one of the random 280 combinations the machine gives the shoppers a collectiblerecipe and an actual sample sample made with the mayonnaise.

Its aninteresting dovetail between advertising and product development that many agencies are now exploring. Granted, thiswas done for a brand and not standalone by an agency, but its unique in that its more than just an ad. Its an actualproduct that is useful to the consumer in a way that perfectly relates to the products sponsor.http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/solar-panel-inside-nivea-print-ad-generates-power-charge-your-cell-phone-149882

EnterDeutsch/LA, which claims to have produced radio ads for a dollar promoting the menu. The agency decided not to hirea voiceover actor, choosing instead to have a low-quality text-to-speech voice—i.e., a bad robot voice—read thescripts. The robot pronounces radio as "rah-dio," but more shameful is that he cant say "tortilla" properly either. Hemakes up for it with some humorous musings on his personal life, and the refreshing sign-off "Live Más. Bell sound."
