      • The present tense is used to talk about things that are happening NOW.
      • In English it is:
          • I go
          • I do
          • I play
          • I sing
    3. The present tense
      • Like in English, the word has to change spelling like ‘I play / he play s ’
      • This is called conjugating a verb.
      • This is what we are going to learn to do…
    4. The pronouns
      • ich
      • du
      • er
      • sie
      • es
      • man
      • wir
      • ihr
      • Sie

      I You (singular, friend, family, animal, child) He She it One/we We You (plural, friend, family, animal, child ) You (polite) They
    5. Infinitives
      • Infinitives are the ‘to’ part of the verb.
      • e.g. to dance, to sing, to play.
      • In German they end in –en
      • e.g. spiel en sing en mach en
      • to play to sing to do
    6. Stems
      • Stems are the part of the verb that never changes. E.g. I dance , he dance s, you dance
      • In German you take off the –en to find the stem.
      • e.g. spiel - sing - mach -
    7. The present tense
      • To form the present tense you must add on endings to the stem.

    9. Infinitives and stems – a summary The infinitive is the ‘to’ part of the verb (e.g. to sleep). In German, they end in –en . To find the stem , take off the –en . Essen  ess- Kaufen  kauf- singen  sing- Now you can add the endings to the stem.
