Remember Remember Presentation Transcript

  •
    • We assemble each week in part to remember our Lord by partaking of the Lord’s supper. Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:1-2
    • Most Christians do understand the meaning of the Lord’s supper, but it is good to be reminded of how important it really is.
    • So what is the true meaning of the Lord’s supper?
  • It’s Origin
    • Jesus instituted the Lord’s supper.
    • Mt. 26:26-29; Mk. 14:22-25; Lk. 22:14-20
      • Christians observed it weekly… Acts 2:42; 20:7
    • We need to know its significance and observe it properly. 1 Cor. 11:27,29
  • It is a Commemoration
    • It’s to be observed in the memory of Christ.
    • Luke 22:19
    • Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection is the heart of the gospel and redemption.
    • 1 Cor. 15:1-4
We’re often told to remember what God has commanded. 2 Peter 3:1; Rev. 2:5
  • It is a Communion
    • The cup and bread are a communion of the body and blood of Christ. 1 Cor. 10:16
      • Communion is koinonia… “ participation or sharing” in the benefits of Jesus’ blood & body.
      • This communion brings us to realize our union with Christ. 1 Cor. 10:14-22
Therefore, the Lord’s supper is proved to be of benefit for Christians only. Mt. 26:29; Col. 1:13
  • It is a Communion…
    • The Lord’s supper is a two-fold communion.
      • With Christ: In eating the Lord’s supper we signify our union with Christ. 1 Cor. 10:16
      • With one another: We show we are united with one another. We are one body and mutual sharers of His grace.
      • Rom. 12:5; 1 Cor. 10:17
  • It is a Proclamation
    • The Lord’s supper is an announcement or declaration! 1 Cor. 11:26
    • By this we’re reminded, we need to proclaim His death to all. 1 Cor. 2:1-2; Mk. 16:15-16
    • We must be here to have union and communion with Christ. Heb.10:24-26
  • It’s a Dedication of a New Covenant
    • “ This cup is the New Covenant in My blood” 1 Cor. 11:25
    • It represents the blood-ratified covenant between Christ and Christians. Heb.13:20-21
    • Reminds us of Christ promises, & our promise:
    • Eph. 1:3; Exodus 24:7; Romans 6
  • It’s an Anticipation…
    • We are to observe it, “ Until He comes ”
    • The hope of Christ’s second coming fills our hearts! 1 Cor. 11:26; Acts 1:11
      • We should have this hope rekindled within us every week as we observe the Lord’s supper.
    • This is the significance of the Lord’s supper, there is far more involved than what meets the eye of the casual observer.
    • If properly observed by Christians, it will result in greater love, appreciation, unity, faith, zeal, obedience, hope, and joy.
    • Let us be sure that we truly appreciate the meaning of the Lord’s supper, and as a result partake of it only in a worthy manner.
    • Become a Christian today by…
      • Hearing and learning the truth Jn. 6:45
      • Belief in the truth Rom. 10:10
      • Repenting of sin Acts 3:19
      • Confessing Jesus Acts 8:37
      • Baptism into Christ Acts 22:16
