      • Vocabulary
    2. 1. Data – information from which analyses and conclusions can be made; to gather information.
      • 2. Controlled experiment – an experiment with two groups: an experimental group and a control group.
    3. 3. Constant – the factor that is kept the same in a controlled experiment.
      • 4. Variable – the factor that is changed in a controlled experiment.
    4. 5. Meter – the basic SI unit of length; abbreviated as m.
      • 6. Volume – the amount of space occupied by an object or substance.
    5. 7. Cubic meter – the basic SI unit of volume; space occupied by a cube 1 m x 1 m x 1 m; abbreviated by m ³.
      • 8. Liter – a metric unit of volume; a convienient unir for everyday use; abbreviated as L.
      • 9. Mass – the scientific measurement of the amount of matter that an object contains; abbreviated as m.
    6. 10. Kilogram – the basic SI unit of mass; abbreviated as kg.
    7. 11. Density – the measure of how much mass exists in a given volume; density = mass ÷ volume.
    8. 12. Scientific notation – the method of expressing a very large or very small number by multiplying a number between 1 and 10 by some power of 10.
