  • 1. A dramatised reading of The Three Little Pigs by Roald Dahl
  • 2. Aims of the session: To develop your skills
    • Creative skills : To use imagination and creativity to produce a reading that is entertaining and brings out the meaning, the moral - and the fun! – of Roald Dahl’s poem
    • Groupwork skills : To work well in a group to produce an end product within a time limit
    • Technical skills : To extend skills in using Garageband to create a podcast
  • 3. Step 1: Story check
    • What is the message of The Three Little Pigs?
    • Watch the short Disney film version and decide
  • 4. Step 2: Skills check
    • Before you start to use your creative , groupwork and analytical skills, try a quick exercise to see if you can identify what you will need to think about in the next hour or so…and what you won’t!
  • 5. Step 3: Technical check
    • Before you start preparing and rehearsing your dramatisation, check that you will be ready to record your podcast!
    • Do a sound check: Each group member must record 3 top tips for creating a podcast on his/her Macbook
    • Listen to each recording and check that it is clear
    • Share and compare your answers to the quiz questions about how to create a podcast emailed after the last lesson
  • 6. Step 4: Plan and rehearse!
    • Using your groupwork skills, discuss and rehearse your dramatised reading of the poem
    • Try to capture the ‘feel’ of the poem. Is it meant to be funny? Dramatic? Sad?
    • Remember to make the moral of the tale (as suggested by Roald Dahl!) as clear as you can
    • Think about using tone, volume, pace, pauses etc to create dramatic effect and humour
  • 7. Step 5: Record!
    • Record your version
    • Name and save it carefully!
    • Next lesson, we shall evaluate each others’ work
  • 8. But wait a minute… Is this the true story??
  • 9. Come closer while I read you the TRUE story of what happened…
  • 10. And for homework…
    • Think of 3 other villains from fairytales or other well known stories, who could have a very different story to tell, if only they had the chance…
    • In your beige exercise books, make a list of their names and the stories in which they appear
    • For each one, write a brief paragraph (5-6 lines in sentences) explaining their side of the story. How would they tell the story, given the chance?
  • 11. Back to the Podcast: Step 5
    • Evaluate 3 other groups’ work
    • What works well in their reading? ( STAR )
    • What do they need to work on for the next time they create a dramatic reading of poem? ( WISH )
    • Give each group you evaluate 2 stars and a wish
