  • 4. Rules . When a player is running with the ball they must do what is known as a running bounce every 15 metres. If the player does not, the umpire decides to give a free kick to the other team. . One of the biggest AFL rules is holding the ball which helps stop players from purposely slowing down the play. This happens when a player is tackled and they must get rid of the ball by kicking it or handballing it. . When handballing, the ball it must be punched with one hand with the other fist, it can not to be punched like a volleyball serve. The ball is not allowed to be handed to another teammate. Also the ball can’t be thrown to another player. . In Aussie rules there isn’t an offside rule, that means all 18 players on both teams are allowed anywhere on the oval at any time in the match.
